Davis Tiller Tamer (2205)

A tiller lock. A clamp unit on the tiller grips a line that runs across the boat, and turning the knob sets the grip anywhere from free to fully locked, so the boat holds its course while you sort out a line or take a break.

How it fits: the unit screws to the top or bottom of the tiller, at least 18 in (46cm) from the rudder pivot. Davis's instructions call for a 1/4 in (6mm) line led from the unit to a cleat on each side of the boat. The supplied screws are wood screws, so on a metal tiller you'll need machine screws or rivets instead.
